	Core Worlds The Core Worlds were some of the most prestigious, well-developed, well-known, and heavily populated planets in the galaxy. In astrophysical terms, the Core denoted the central area of the galaxy, and in broad terms this was true enough, but the precise usage of the term was sometimes more complex. 	Colonies The Colonies, also known as the Colonies Regions, was the name given to a region of the Galaxy between the Core Worlds and the Inner Rim. The planets in the colonies were extremely wealthy and highly developed. They could be referred to as export powerhouses. They produced vast amounts of raw materials, particularly food and metals for the production of droids, starships, and military vehicles. 	Inner Rim Territories The Inner Rim Territories, also called the Inner Rim Planets or more commonly just the Inner Rim, was a region of the Galaxy between the Colonies and the Expansion Region. It was originally just called "The Rim" when settled 20,100 BBY. It was expected to be the farthest extent of the known Galaxy for centuries, but the Expanded Rim (later renamed the Expansion Region) was opened within a hundred years of the Inner Rim. 	Expansion Region The Expansion Region, first known as the Expansion Rim, was located between the Inner Rim and the Mid Rim in the Galaxy. Powerful corporations exploited and profited heavily from the planets for their raw materials, metals and ores. While profits were enormous for these corporations, internal strife and disturbances continually disturbed the region. Inhabitants were oppressed while the corporations stripped entire stellar systems of all their resources. Because they controlled communications and transportation to, from and across the region, very few people knew what was going on in the Expansion Region. 	Mid Rim The Mid Rim was located between the Expansion Region and the Outer Rim in the Galaxy. With fewer natural resources—and therefore a smaller population—than many neighboring regions, the Mid Rim was a territory where residents worked hard for everything they had. 	Outer Rim Territories The Outer Rim Territories, simply known as the Outer Rim, were located outside the Mid Rim. The Outer Rim was the last widely settled expanse of the galaxy before Wild Space and the Unknown Regions. It was strewn with obscure worlds, and rugged, primitive frontier planets. 	Wild Space Wild Space was the frontier of galactic society, separating the known parts of the galaxy from the Unknown Regions. One of Palpatine's last acts was to open up much of the region to more extensive exploration. Wild Space differed from the Unknown Regions in that some of Wild Space has been explored, though not extensively; whereas the Unknown Regions remained mysterious. 	Coruscant The Galactic Center of Coruscant was the political hub of the galaxy for millennia. It was generally agreed that Coruscant was, during most of Galactic history, the most politically important world in the galaxy. A large number of the galaxy's trade routes—including the Perlemian Trade Route, the Corellian Run, the Metellos Trade Route, the Koros Trunk Line, and the Leisure Corridor—went through Coruscant, making it one of the richest worlds in the galaxy.
